Job Description
The AFS Scope of Services Review team is a group organized by the US risk management functions of Assurance, Tax, and Advisory. The AFS Scope of Services Review team's role is to apply scope-of-service independence rules specified in the firm's independence policy to help US teams manage the risk of causing an independence impairment resulting from certain nonaudit/nonattest services the teams are engaging to provide to PwC audit clients or their affiliates.

Minimum Year(s) of Experience: 4


Minimum Degree Required: High School Diploma or GED


Degree Preferred: Bachelor's degree


Knowledge Preferred:

Demonstrates an understanding of the importance of independence, risk management and quality to the firm and has an understanding of the client engagement lifecycle.

Although most scope-of-services independence knowledge will be attained after taking the role, will ultimately demonstrates an

extensive knowledge and proven success performing functions that involve the application of independence regulations/policies in an engagement situation emphasizing the following areas:

- Perform initial review of proposals, engagement letters and Authorization For Services (AFS) requests to ensure scope of services is in accordance with independence restrictions;

- Assist with AFS approvals; and,

- Serve as a consultant to client service practitioners on scope-of-service independence matters and provide guidance based on existing policy and regulatory requirements.


Skills Preferred:

Demonstrates extensive abilities and/or a proven record of success in the following areas:

- Liaising with the Independence Office on consultations referred to or from the Independence Office;

- Collaborating with Independence, ASSIST/ RAISiT and R&Q, and Ethics & Compliance from all lines of services on Independence and training activities and strategic change initiatives;

- Managing, reporting project status and escalating issues to the AFS SoSRteam Partners and Directors on assigned daily responsibilities as well as AFS SoSRteam initiatives and process improvement efforts, with primary focus on the implementation of scope-of-service independence and business requirements through the AFS application;

- Leading, coaching and developing other members of the consultation team;

- Utilizing attained independence-related knowledge and client-service experience to match rules to facts and then to make an authoritative decision;

- Leveraging business writing skills to articulate PwC's services or document a position taken in a concise manner, especially as it involves project management, resource allocation, problem resolution, and presentation and communications development;

- Working independently towards quality completion of projects, keeping supervisors apprised of progress;

- Training staff on matters pertaining to the subject matter specialty;

- Participating and/or leading special projects;

- Working closely with and supporting team leaders and members on consultations or projects involving cross or multiple lines of service;

- Developing and maintaining working relationships with client service teams within the various practices and become the focal point of contact for non-audit/non-attest scope-of-services independence questions that may arise; and,

- Being self-motivated and taking ownership of learning Independence scope-of-services policies to gain a deeper understanding of independence policies and guidance, and the application of these policies and guidance to engagement situations and other initiatives.
